As a 501c3 non-profit, we’re limited in the political advocacy we can take on, especially when elected officials and proposed legislation are involved. This means we rarely come out swinging in favor of any particular piece of legislation unless it makes a compelling case that it would further our mission to secure a legal environment in which California builds housing equal to its needs.
SB 50 is one of the most powerful tools proposed today to close the numerous loopholes that many of the cities we’ve fought have tried to exploit, while also making our work even more valuable in pushing for decarbonization of our cities, abundant housing near transit, and ultimately, a fairer California with a breathtaking diversity of housing options that are more than just luxury Single Family Homes.
